How to find out the leg length of your motor |
When using our order form you have a couple of options:
- If you are sure of the leg length just select from the drop box the appropriate leg size you can use Option 1 below as a guide to ensure accuracy.
OR
- If you are unsure you MUST enter a guess in our drop box as above, but then you can measure your motor overall as outlined in Option 2 below and enter the measurement in inches in the box provided. If you fail to make a guess you will receive an error on the Order Form.

There are a couple of ways of working out the leg length of your motor...they are:
- View the "ID badge"number of the motor which is usually located on the mounting bracket to the boat. As an example a Mercury & Mariner may say 90ELPTO (90 being the size) 'E' is electronic ignition, 'L' is the leg length (being L for long).
Yamaha 2 or 4stk may have a letter dropped just under the size of the motor e.g.. 130BETO (just under the 130 being the HP will be a letter either S,L,X etc). Johnson & Evinrude use a different code all together and the whole of the plate numbers and numbers & letters should be noted.
- The other easier way is to simply measure the motor from the very top to the very bottom (include the fin or skeg) side on is usually the best.

Option: 1
View the ID plate for your motor make and model. This plate is usually located on the mounting bracket of the motor but can be sometimes on the front. Some examples are listed below: |
Option: 2
Measure the motor from top to the skeg as detailed below, height in inches are great |
Johnson/Evinrude

Johnson 115P with a X long leg
All we require is the model # in total.
|
Merc /Mariner /Nissan

Above this motor is a 140XL or another way might be above 60hp ELPTO |
Yamaha

" L" Long Leg |
Honda & Suzuki
Don't print the leg length on the motor so unless you know please measure as per right hand side of page. |

| The plates above tell us everything we need to know in most cases, as an example the Yamaha Model above is a 25NMH under the '25' the letter indicates it's a long leg. From our experience this is not always the case but it is certainly a great start. |
This is by far the best way for us to get the correct leg length. This is the most common mistake that customers make when placing an order, they think it's a long leg but it's a XL. Another common mistake is the year of the motor with all the codes of the ID plate we can usually identify the year correctly for you. |
